PlayStation 10 #1 Posted December 22, 2017 Has anyone been contacted by virginmedia promising 200mbps broadband? Since the upgrade ive been running speed test and i'm lucky to get 40mbps I know the upgrade was for free (so they say) but at 40mbps i'm not even getting what I pay for which is 60mbps. The Joker 10 #4 Posted December 22, 2017 I went from 70mb to 100mb; I’m getting a third of that. If I was paying for 100mb I’d be furious. As I’m only paying for 20mb, I’m merely unimpressed
 Share this content via...
Phili Buster 10 #5 Posted December 22, 2017 I believe it depends how far you are from the 'box'. From the 'box' to your home uses copper cable. Their excuse would be it is 'upto' the quoted speed, not much use if only getting 40mb to be told well that is 'upto'
 Share this content via...
martynh99 10 #6 Posted December 22, 2017 (edited) Are you doing tests over Wifi or connected into the router via cable. I can be in same room and Wifi gives 50m, in another room upto 160m but direct cable connected sometimes just over 200m. On a Virgin Hub 3.0 you can check what speed you are configured for, not sure how you check on older hubs. Log into the hub http://192.168.0.1 (if you haven't changed your password it's on the card under the Hub) Go to Advanced settings ->Tools -> Network status On the right hand side of the screen you'll see Configuration , click that look for Primary Downstream Service Flow / Max traffic rate Edited December 22, 2017 by martynh99
 Share this content via...

I’m less than 25 metres away ---------- Post added 22-12-2017 at 10:06 ---------- Are you doing tests over Wifi or connected into the router via cable. I can be in same room and Wifi gives 50m, in another room upto 160m but direct cable connected sometimes just over 200m. I was using wireless, in the same room as the router, about a metre away. I’ll try later using a wired connection
 Share this content via...
The Joker 10 #8 Posted December 22, 2017 I'm on 350Mbps VOOM “Fibre” Broadband Service at my office and home as well, on each we only get 50-60 on wired, 20-30 on 2.4gHz & 150-160 on 5gHz... that reminds me, I have a dreadful experience with virgin media’s 5ghz wireless connection. It regularly drops the connection and times out when browsing the web. I have to use the 2.4ghz to get a stable connection
 Share this content via...

OryxBeisa 11 #11 Posted December 22, 2017 I've had a consistent 70-80mb connection via plusnet for years, it's the only ISP I'd recommend if people want to switch.
 Share this content via...
