Bizzy_Lizzy   10 #1 Posted November 25, 2014 Iv just started using a treadmill, not doing strenuous exercise just 30 mins a day doing power walking and started with a pain in my knee, it seems like its slightly swollen like fluid in it and a kind of dull ache just below my knee cap. Is this normal when first starting out? I did dislocate it about 4 years ago but not had any pain from it since? Should i stop training for a while or continue? I dont have any muscular pain anywhere else so dont think i'm over training and especially with it being only half an hour a day! Any help/advice appreciated! Â What you should do is get it checked by a professional TBH. Â Not much give in a treadmill so quite a lot of impact on your knees, even just walking. Â Also, well done for starting with some exercise. Get your knee checked and sorted properly and then you keep at it
 Share this content via...
Bizzy_Lizzy   10 #4 Posted November 26, 2014 Thanks for the support, i didnt want to feel like i was taking up a doctors appointment if it was normal or to be expected at the starting point of fitness but seems like i shall have to pay him a visit. I just did 5 mins walking at a slower pace as a kind of warm up gradually increasing speed to the speed i required, should i be doing more? I have kept off it as the knee has been giving me quite a lot of pain since and cant bear the thought of running on it! :-/
 Share this content via...

Maybe £40 quid or so for a 1 off consultation.  Depending on your Dr - he/she will have other priorities like obesity and stopping people smoking. You may just be told to rest it and we could tell you that  keep us posted :-)
 Share this content via...
Vanah   10 #6 Posted November 28, 2014 Why don't you see your GP. Better check that out
 Share this content via...
tzijlstra   11 #7 Posted November 28, 2014 the GP won't necessarily do a lot. It sounds a lot like my knee-issues, after I play basketball it always haunts me (dislocated it badly 18 years ago, never gets better). I've learned to live with the pain, you probably should go and see the GP and try and get a referral for a specialist in the hospital, it is likely that there is some cartilage issue and they might be able to sort it (or not, as was the case for me).
