Car advice . What to buy ?

Recommended Posts

All.

I am looking for a car up to £3k. Preferably a hatchback. Nothing boy racer (too old for that)

I have been looking online and a lot of sites are saying Skoda Fabia, Seat Aleta even a BMW 320d along with Audi TT, Peugeot 4007 and Qashqai

Just wondered if I could get some advice here.

Requirements -

Roomy (ish)

Hatchback

Stylish

Low insurance (I have 10+ years no claims)

Low tax

I am not a car nut and I have had a few Golfs and A3's down the years, I am likely to stick with those choices unless I find something I haven't even considered.

Thanks in advance

Yeah, my Dad has one of these and he does go on about how good it is.

A second hand Kia Ceed could be a good buy. Although it might be out of its 7 year warranty, you can guarantee that the previous owner has had anything and everything done to it under warranty.

Golfs are pretty reliable. Just bought a Mk5 GTI myself, 144k miles for £3k and in good nick, running fine :)

I wouldn't recommend a Mini.

For that money you're talking about an old car which will almost certainly have had many owners, a good chunk of which WILL have thrashed the living daylights out of it. Gearboxes are weak, clutches can also be a problem area and power steering racks a frequent failure point. Also seem quite prone to oil leaks.

Minis don't have the best reputation for reliability and longevity, which is why people nickname them "B. M. Trouble U"

Is that a BMW mini or the original mini?
