Out of date with TVs - am I expecting too much of LCD?

thanks folks - we don't watch a lot of TV and not in a position to spend hundreds - though I appreciate quality costs

I know folks said it probably wouldn't help but picked up a Sony S6500 Blu ray / Smart TV box from Argos clearance for £60 - we got it partly for iPlayer, partly because it is supposed to be really good at upscaling DVDs and partly because we plan to buy blu-ray discs rather than DVD from now on, as sooner or later we will get a better TV

Anyhow, the image quality on DVD *IS* quite a bit better (so blaming our old DVD player on that) and HD catch up is actually fairly okay too - so our stop gap telly just got a bit less horrible
