White Lion, Heeley - Events w/c 4th December

Recommended Posts

Tuesday 5th December: Jazz Jam

Our twice monthly live Jazz session has arrived once again.

A night giving the stage over to a whole host of local musicians. Expect beautiful ballads right through to burning Be-Bop; meaningful Mainstream to mad Modal; furious Funk to the frightfully Free; lively Latin to luscious Lounge; and classic Cool through to the curiously Contemporary!

8.30pm, free entry.

Wednesday 6th December: Quiz Night

The highly irreverent Quiz is every Wednesday at The White. Hosted by the inimitable Mr Bling, you and your team must overcome 3 rounds of general knowledge, an audio round and a picture round in order to claim the prize.

Throw into the mix some random challenges, spot prizes, lashings of real ale and a completely free buffet with veggie, vegan and gluten-free options and you're onto a winner.

9pm, 50p entry

Thursday 7th December: Jam Night

Hosted by Sheffield legend Chris Firminger and backed by his regular house band The TwoJays, this evening provides a platform for musicians from all over Sheffield and further afield.

Renowned for the musicians it attracts, the Thursday Jam sees regular attendance and performance from the likes of Julian Jones, The Carnival, Open Jaw Fayre, The Crashers, Grave Danger, Fahrenheit, Vamp and many more.

Full backline and P.A. provided, come watch or join in.

8.30pm, free entry

Friday 8th December: The Vegas 6

Six steaming rockers, rooted in Yorkshire grit, kicking out pulsing Glam Blues and sleazy ass rock n roll - jabbing a sartorial finger in the eyes of innocent onlookers.

Dishing up a slice of Las Vegas - dragged through the mill and the pit, they have a mutual appreciation of faded glamour, audience intimidation and aged whisky. Wielding their instruments and lyrical barrages with no self-regard, they spread the Rock n Roll gospel according to the old gods - like a communicable disease - with all the zeal of used car salesmen.

Rock n roll how it should be played - like Gene Vincent meets The Night Of The Hunter.

9.30pm, free entry

Saturday 9th December: The Gav Coulson Group

Highly respected guitarist Gavin Coulson arrives at The White Lion this evening, but this time with his own group.

Playing a selection of fine tunes from Deep Purple, ZZ Top, Jimi Hendrix to Stevie Ray Vaughan and Gary Moore amongst many others, a belter of a rock night is anticipated!

Baz Groom - Photographer and Reviewer for Rock of The North...

"What band in their right mind would perform the Allman Bros "Whippin Post" on a Friday night in the Boot & Shoe? More importantly, get away with it? Well that band would be the Gav Coulson Group. The same song even got em' up dancing (until they realised the song is a tad over 3 minutes!) And along with tracks from Gary Moore, Hendrix, Glenn Hughes, Walter Trout and a blistering take on Joe Bonamassa's version of Just Got Paid, the group went down a storm. Most know of Gavin's prowess on the guitar, but this is no 'one man band'. Four cracking musicians who know their stuff. Keyboards from Chris Pilkington ex Storm Bringer & Empress really give the band a rich sound. Ably assisted by a powerhouse rhythm section, this is rock blues at it's best!!

Sunday 11th December: The Sunday Jam

Hosted by The Carnival, the Sunday afternoon rock jam is back once again - 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month. A stellar line up of quality musicians, full backline and PA provided for those who are playing.

5.30pm, free entry
