Leave it to the referee

Recommended Posts

Just watching the Liverpool v WBA game .

I don’t think that VAR is worth pursuing.

A goal has been disallowed and a penalty given by VAR.

Also a goal has been confirmed after consulting VAR.

These were probably the correct decisions, but it certainly dampens the excitement of the crowd who have no idea what’s going on.

If it is to continue then the players must accept the refs decision to consult the replay and not pursue him in the way that Johnny Evans did before and after the consultation.

Give it a bit of time. This sort of thing works well in cricket and tennis. It took a while to get it right in both of those sports though.

If it gets rid of howlers, it has to be good. But it also has to be quick and well understood

Probably true but

a) The live crowd should be aware of what is the issue and preferably see the replay,as in other sports

b) The players should accept the referees call. This is an issue in football but not in other sports.

c) The process does need speeding up

I agree. If you attend international cricket now, you get to see the same video feed as the tv umpire and you get a running commentary of what he’s thinking.

That helps
