melthebell   862 #13 Posted September 3, 2017 But why do teams like Wednesday, Middlesbrough ,United need to shut down for two weeks you can count their Internationals on one hand (if any). what about teams theyre playing?  its easier to shut down the top leagues than it is to go through all the teams and see who might be missing players? stpetre   12 #16 Posted September 3, 2017 what about teams theyre playing? its easier to shut down the top leagues than it is to go through all the teams and see who might be missing players?  Not that this answers the question but in the early 60's when international games came up, a First Division club could have their game postponed if they had at least two players that were on 'international duty', Them days it was the likes of Tottenham and Manchester United who had most players doing so. The Owls also with Ron Springett and Peter Swan. If a club had only one player called up then it was 'too bad'-Alan Hodgkinson at Blades for example- as the other league games went on and in the then Second Division Middlesbrough had to do without Brian Clough and play without him.
