Miliband is raking in the cash.

Recommended Posts

It appears that David Miliband won't be in a hurry to rejoin the shadow cabinet. He is far to busy being a good capitalist and raking in the dosh.

One of the appointments he has taken up since losing out in Labour's leadership contest was at Vantage Point clean energy investments who are is paying him the mighty sum of £23,210 a quarter or a £92,840 p/a for consultacy work. This is on top of his MPs salary and the fortune he makes giving lectures and public speaking.

A shame, I saw him on BBC Breakfast last week and he conducted himself brilliantly, a great loss to the party. Or part of the cunning plan to let Ed take the flak and David to swiftly move in when the time is right.

But if people are willing to pay him to talk to an audience he'd be a fool to turn it down wouldn't he and many other celebrities/sportsman do the same. Likewise he obviously has a skill regarding consultancy for a company to employ him. Being multi-talented seems to be quite profitable :)

You are right of course. Why waste your time in the shadow cabinet getting tarnished with Ed's brush, when you can spend the wilderness years on the gravy train and return after the next election to a party in urgent need of a new leader without baggage.

Of course in the meantime his speaches to the Fabians make sure that his name keeps coming round when folks start to analyse his brother's dismal showing.

It reminds me of Michael Portillo - hated by the public and media when he was in the cabinet, but he's now becoming a national institution with his Great British Railway Journeys programme.

That's as maybe but when does he find time to work as an MP for his constituents? Isn't that what he is supposedly paid to do. You can't do a lecture in Dubai in you lunch hour.

Why not make money if you are able, I doubt many people would turn it down.

Perhaps they should put a time clock in the commons and pay them by the hour.

I have no specific love for politicians from any party, but it makes me laugh that people will slag anyone who is making money down, no matter what they do, I personally think its jealousy.

Perhaps it should be considered to be a full time job...

It seems he is a bit like Tony Blair.

Why pay taxes on your proper job when you can put it through shadow companies and avoid tax like all good socialists?

The work seems to allow a degree of freedom to pursue other interests the same as the work I do does, the only difference is the amount earned.
