What relation is my mums cousins kid?

Recommended Posts

Hi people,

Last week I met some family from down south which I've not seen in years and I'm just trying to work out what relation they actually are. The main person I spoke to I'll call "lucy". I don't understand all this 2nd cousin one removed rubbish hahaha

Basically "Lucy" is my mums, cousins, kid.

Kinship System

To you, your Mum's cousin would be your First cousin-once removed. The child of 1c1r would be your Second cousin.

Easy peasy. :)

She is fair game if that's the question ;)

AFAIK she'd legally be fair game if they were first cousins..

If you were willing (and it were possible) to trace back as far as twentieth cousins ... probably all of us, recent immigrants and their descendants excepted.
