Recommend/advice: structural plans/calcs

Recommended Posts

Hi

I'm looking for someone to do structural calcs for a single storey extension before I submit the building notice to the council. I have already applied to the planning dept. and have been approved within the permitted development rights.

Any advice/recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Tink,

Sounds exciting!

I have a few contacts, where are you based?

You can save money going to a structural engineer with your own drawn-up plans if they undertake the calculations only - just be certain of your drawings (spans, dimensions, window openings, etc)

Otherwise, engineers undertake the survey, drawings and calculations at additional costs.

Hi Starchitect

Thank for your reply.

We are based in S5, just off Halifax Road.

We have rough(read as 'not professional') plans with all the measurements.

I just get a bit unsure when I hear different bits of information. Sometimes I'm confident I don't need someone to do do a survey and plans then I hear something else that makes me think I do.

I just want to make sure I do the right thing? Obviously cost is an important consideration.
