Looking for business for sponsorship of Wednesday night football team

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm looking for local businesses to sponsor the shirts of our Wednesday night 6 a side team.

The team is in the top division (of 3) of the 'back of the net leagues' set-up in Sheffield and play at Sheffield University sports pitches opposite Weston Park Hospital between 6pm-9:20pm. We've played 5 seasons now in the top division winning the league once and being in the top 3 every season.

We'd be looking for sponsorship of £250. to help cover the purchase of new shirts. This would mean a company logo printed largely on the front of the tops.

The advantages of this deal as opposed to a regular 11 a side sunday league team are as follows.

As opposed to 11 a side games which are usually tucked away on single pitches with just the 2 teams and coaches present (30 people or so) The pitches we play on host 3 games in the same vicinity (one full sized pitch) at any one time. With the average squad size being 8 players, that's 40 other players (excluding ours) that will have a view of the shirts. Add to this the teams turning up after and heading home directly before our games and refs, supporters etc there's potentially upwards of 150 people that will be exposed to the sponsored tops each week. The differing kick off times (between 6pm-9:20pm) means a full and different variety of other teams will see the sponsored shirts on a weekly basis also.

Another bonus compared to 11 a side teams that run for just the winter period, is that the league runs year round with only a week's break between new (4 month) seasons.

The sponsors logo will also be added to videos that are recorded of full games each week and added to a youtube channel, also highlights are regularly posted on facebook and instagram to over 700 followers.

Good luck with this. Shirt sponsorship is almost always done as a look at me we sponsor xyz, or we are a very friendly local business and put money back into our community by sponsoring this local team. Your sales pitch is really good... and you may get someone, but most likely only a business you regularly use. From a marketing view point nearly all shirt sponsorship is absolutely awful, and most businesses never see a return on the investment no matter how small. If you struggle for a while I suggest you do a deal with a local pub or cafe which you agree to visit after each match for the rest of the year. You could probably ask a bit more for this too.

I dont know your background in business/marketing so i'll have to take your word for it as someone who has experience, as far as how effective as an advertisement it is. I would think still if there is a local specialist business or a local (to the vicinity) shop/brand then it will get cemented in peoples minds. Especially if they later walk/drive past the business in question. Will have to wait and see if anything develops. Thanks for your input and ideas.
