The lowest coin is now the nickel (5 cents). However pricing never changed, we still get the good old 1.99 and 1.97 etc. What they do now is e.g. if it is priced at I.99 you pay $2, if it is priced at 1.97 you pay 1.95. So as you can see everything is rounded to the nearest five cents, so I guess they will do the same in the UK (5 pence), this also saves a lot of work for retailers etc in rounding up prices. Don't know about slots as I have never seen anything less than a quarter( 25 cents) anyway, over here. Mind you I am not a slot machine person, so not 100% on that. Padders   2,863 #3 Posted March 13, 2018 Get shut, the sooner the better, their a bloomin nuisance, as Ontarian says round everything up and down... slot machines make em 5p minimum, you don"t have to put money in.
 Share this content via...

That would work, a 5 pence piece( old shilling) is almost exactly the same as a Canadian quarter dimensionally, the only difference is what's on the back, both have the Queens head on them at the front. However, they are not interchangeable in machines I tried it at a laundrette years ago, and the 5p wouldn't work lol.
 Share this content via...

Just to add to my earlier posts apparently at Casinos these days, they do not use coins in slot machines, you put in your paper money and get credits to play with. When you leave the machine you press a button and get a voucher for whatever balance you have left. A bit like playing with chips on the tables. alchresearch   214 #8 Posted March 14, 2018 Also those machines in the arcades where you use 2ps will they be scrapped? or altered for say 10ps or even more more expensive to play, would be a shame.  I've noticed that the 2p "penny falls" machines are slowly being replaced by the 10p ones.  My 1ps and 2ps go straight into collecting tins on the shop counter. nikki-red   308 #9 Posted March 14, 2018 I (and I would imagine a lot of other people) always put the 1ps/2ps in change I get in shops in the charity box. If theyre done away with I wonder if a lot of charities will lose out?
 Share this content via...

Nothing would be rounded down.
 Share this content via...
barleycorn   10 #12 Posted March 14, 2018 The 1p is currently worth less due to inflation than the 0.5p when it was phased out. IIRC the world did not come to an end. As for rounding up/down this can be enforced through legislation, again no need to panic.
 Share this content via...
