US actor Gene Wilder, remembered by many for his namesake role in Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, has died at the age of 83, his family confirmed.

rip gene , a very funny man and apparently a gentle soul . might have to watch blazing saddles tonight ( the Waco kid )

He was a brilliant comic actor. His films with Richard Pryor are genius.

Love Willy Wonka and Young Frankenstein RIP Gene.

Loved the Willy Wonka character but don't think I have seen any of his other films. Been recommended Stir Crazy, Blazing Saddles, and Young Frankenstein - hope one or more of them are on the box soon.

Tell a lie - forgot about Silver Streak (seen a few times) - have the book.

I don't usually get sad when a celeb goes but Gene had a special place for me very funny guy.

RIP indeed, my favourite was "Young Frankenstein" marty Feldman was also good in this.
