The Consequences of Brexit [part 4]

Recommended Posts

Nope I’m not envious of him. Far from it.

I’m angry that his agenda means loss of rights for millions of people. You should be angry too but you’re too busy fawning over people who simply don’t care about you.

Why the comment about Graft then ? :) And about how much he stood to gain ? No envy in those two comments :D

Last December it was reported that Mrs May planned to spend huge amounts of taxpayers’ money exempting her husband – along with other people who work in the City – from Brexit. Has this been investigated by the Propriety and Ethics team? Which could seriously harm the Conservative general election campaign:

It seems the Cabinet Office Propriety and Ethics Team has launched an inquiry into whether the company which employs Theresa May’s husband, Philip, could have potentially made large sums of money from Brexit market movements caused by her decisions.

If so, it is not only a clear conflict of interest for May, but a breach of the ministers' code of conduct which states that 'Ministers must ensure that no conflict arise, or appears to arise, between their public duties and their private interests.'

The investigation could be even more damaging to the Conservative election campaign as Mrs May claimed from the start that it would be about Brexit. The investigation has raised concerns it could 'really' be about any profits she and her husband can make from Brexit.

The central point of the complaint is that the Capital Group, a global investment company which manages $1.4 trillion of assets for corporations and high net worth individuals, could have had knowledge of market sensitive information that would have benefited their clients over Brexit. The situation would particularly apply to currency movements.

Philip May who works for the Capital Group, could, in theory as the PM’s husband, have had some prior knowledge of major political decisions by his wife....

But the declaration of interests by Mrs May does not disclose his exact role and the preamble to the declaration says 'To disclose such details would involve unjustifiable intrusion into the private affairs not only of Ministers, but of their close families.'

Just you try this and see how quickly they hang you out to dry.

No investigation into Philip May has been launched,May hasn't said she is going to spend taxpayers money exempting him from Brexit, more fake news.

Eh?

My comment was about your graft versus his, and the fact you have so little respect for yourself that you hero worship a privileged individual who wants to screw you over. Mogg doesn’t want a better life for you and you’ll only understand this when it’s far too late.

Nothing to do with envy.

So just to bring this back to the consequences, because a Mod removed at least one of my posts when nobody was actually talking about consequences.

The impression I'm generally picking up is this, -

Leave Voters seem to believe, -

-A certain strata of workers might be able to demand higher wages.

-The poor and disenfranchised will be happier because they have been allowed to tell the EU to sod off.

-We can open up more trade deals with the rest of the world.

- They don't know or don't really care what the negative consequences might be.

-We will receive less immigration, have less immigrants generally.

- We will pay less money to the EU.

Those that voted remain seem to believe, -

-British government will tend toward exploitation of workers and repealing of laws and services that the poorest rely on.

-Dishonest, divisive media which has tended to use lies and half truths to polarise opinion (left and right) will probably gain more ground and cause tensions to rise between different social demographics.

-The richest people and companies will be even more empowered and untouchable.

-Some manufacturing jobs might be under threat because we will be able to buy even cheaper manufactured goods from new countries outside the EU.

-Travel into and around the EU may become more difficult and more expensive.

-Because we are likely to strike some kind of deal we are likely to be subject to working to certain rules and requirements in which we have little and indeed probably no say.

-Consumers may lose access to certain rights that already exist as a result of not being in the EU, - phone roaming for example.

- We may stop cooperating with the EU on things like European arrest warrant, sharing of intelligence, e.t.c. which could affect our national security.

-Certain goods and services might become more expensive due to their past reliance on immigrants, - UK produced food, healthcare services e.t.c.

Both sides are entrenched in their own opinions and are hardly going to change their minds.

Really?

Most forecasts, even the optimistic ones, say the economic downturn will hit heavily leave voting areas first and hardest. Are you seriously suggesting all those people will continue to see Brexit as a good thing?

Nope, they're #despitebrexit, not because of it. We'd be doing even better without Brexit ;)

Maybe your English is lacking or you weren't very good at school, but I'll ask again from post 7596.

Give me a single piece of EU legislation that is so detrimental to the UK and it makes you want to leave. Any piece of legislation that has become UK law.

Read it slowly and maybe a few times.

The Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) is detrimental to the UK and a disaster for the environment. It is a mechanism and set of rules, enabled through legislation which has been updated and reformed at various times, by which European fishing fleets and fish stocks are managed. It began in 1970 and the UK signed up to it on January 1st 1973.

All EU member states are members.

Nope:-

The EU Common Fisheries Policy has helped, not harmed, UK fisheries

https://www.opendemocracy.net/can-europe-make-it/griffin-carpenter/eu-common-fisheries-policy-has-helped-not-harmed-uk-fisheries-0

and in wider context:-

What would Brexit really mean for the UK’s fishing industry?
