In theory, yes, in practice you will need to demonstrate that you have a need to obtain such information. This is usually because you are planning to employ someone or are a statuary body checking applications to foster or adopt children.

 

General nosiness is not grounds for a search.

 

It will cost you about £40 and you will have to provide proof of your identity.

Clare's law is only used in cases of domestic abuse and even if the person being checked does have a history of abuse, they are not allowed to disclose it unless they believe that a person is in danger.

You can search criminal records on the Ancestry website but they are all over 100 years old.

I take it you are wanting to find out about someones past who is still living ?

No the person needs to to apply for a basic disclosure Scotland themselves. Any enhanced DBS application needs to be done because of work or education requirements.

The person in question probably knows and doesn't need to apply for anything.
