Funky_Gibbon   42 #3 Posted July 20, 2017 Seems idiotic frankly. Putting aside the obvious strain on policing it will cause there's also the matter of diverted/cancelled public transport and road closures causing traffic jams.  SYP should put their foot down and insist that the game not be moved to the same day. It's safer to swap the game on Saturday that will be on Sky at lunchtime with the Sheffield derby. Sky still get to show both games and the police don't have to call in support from neighbouring police forces to cope.
 Share this content via...
geared   315 #4 Posted July 20, 2017 Thats going to be interesting, are they expecting the 10k to finish early or something?  Football traffic is going to be building from about 11ish, obviously there will be plenty of lads in the pubs all morning as well. Most of those folk are going to have to battle through people attending the 10k, it's just going to be a right old mess.  Very likely it'll be a sold-out game as well, 30+ thousand people will be trying to get to Hillsborough that morning. top4718   838 #8 Posted July 20, 2017 Both Sheffield football clubs wanting a payday  Sky more or less controls what fixtures are chosen for tv and what time they shown, the clubs don't have much choice in the matter.
 Share this content via...

Guest sibon   #11 Posted July 20, 2017 We've had worse. The derby causes problems whenever it is played, but it is a good thing for the city.  In 1979, 49000 people made it to Hillsborough on Boxing Day, with no public transport at all. We all survived. This will be no worse than that.
 Share this content via...
Andy1976   10 #12 Posted July 21, 2017 Change date of the race to weekend before or after  The race had the date first, therefore they shouldn't have changed the date of the match if it's an issue. First come, first served as they say.  I hadn't realised they clashed in honesty, as I planned to do both the 10k and attend.  I seem to think the 10k starts at 9.30am, so most people will be finished by 10.30am (although the kids race is at 10.30am). If the match is at 12.15 though, then it's likely to cause some traffic issues certainly!
 Share this content via...
