Old Pc Gaming - suggestions

The speed of a machine or even its age has nothing to do with reliability or resilience as the case would be for something as critical as train signalling.

 

If the system has been validated with such a CPU then so be it. It would have been tested and ensured that it met minimum reliability and performance metrics. The testing itself is arguably the most expensive part of bringing such a system online.

I should have stated 'processor' (CPU) not the entire system.

I have heard from a friend that you could get "virtual machines", on Win 10 for almost all old formats, but I suspect they may run faster on our newish machines? But I personally have no desire to go in this direction.

I just checked ebay for Voodoo 3 cards, they are going above 100 £. Voodoo 5500 for more than 350£. Absolutely mental

I have also just bought Hitchikers guide to the galaxy (boxed) which comes on both 5¼ and 3½ disks. Not bad for £24.99 seen it for £49 with only one of the disks not both, and also going for over £100

Tbh most of it was mi dads and i aquired it after he sadly died, also currently on his old gaming pc but its now dying after 7 years

Unless the game needs some old OS and won't work with anything newer, it's a lot of faff.

 

I've got stuff like the original DOOM, Fallout 2 and Civ3 working on Windows 10 for when I want some nostalgia, I suspect it's only the incredibly old DOS stuff that was designed with weird memory and CPU tricks that won't run on modern machinery.
