Baron99 Â Â 771 #3 Posted January 29, 2018 i live in Nether Edge, not far from Oakhill Rd. Generally Nether Edge as a whole is one of the better suburbs & the place you've chosen to live is very quiet with little in the way of crime. You should be quite safe. Â Most of the amenities & shops are at the bottom end of Nether Edge Rd / junction of Sheldon Rd & Machon Bank Rd. There you'll find a small Sainsbury's; newsagents shop; Pop's (convenience store); Zeds Wholefood shop & Turner's Bakery. Â There's also a couple of independent shops selling cards, jewellery, flowers, art work & other gifts, (Wickwire; Moss & Clover). Â There's a dentist, osteopath & launderette. Â For coffee & tea, there's the laid back Cafe #9 or Homemade & the tea specialists, Birdcage. If alcohol is required, down on Nether Edge Rd, Byron House pub, Nether Edge Bowling Club (new members welcome - nice clubhouse & bar) or The Union pub on Union Rd. Â Chelsea Park is only a 10 mins stroll from Oakhill on Chelsea Rd. Â All in all, Nether Edge is a pretty good place to live. Can't see you having any problems. ICXCNIKA Â Â 10 #5 Posted January 30, 2018 (edited) A friend of mine lives quite near to there, on Cavendish Road. There used to be a great pub on that street, The Brinkcliffe Oaks. Apparently, there has been problems with a residential home on the street, it houses ex prisoners and alcoholics, there are 1 or 2 other similar places nearby, on Montgomery rd. The Byron pub is close, a rather noisey place on Byron Rd/Nether Edge Rd. Also Oakhill Rd is rather near the very high crime areas of Abbeydale Rd and Sharrow. Has I recall, Oakhill Rd is situated on a rather steep hill, so you'll need to be a good climber if you live nearer the top. There are also speed bumps put in place to deter joy riders. It's a 20mph area . Nether Edge Club on the otherhand is a great place, with a great bowling green. verona   10 #6 Posted January 30, 2018 It’s not a bad area at all, very quirky with plenty of little coffee shops. Has a mixture of students and professionals. I think I know the flats you, mean, and friend of mine used to live in one of them and had no problems at all. There a definitely worse places to live. The speed bumps are not there to stop joy riders, they are there to slow people down.
 Share this content via...

The speed bumps are not there to stop joy riders, they are there to slow people down. There is 1 coffee shop which has a liquor licence. Not a student area at all. It has a mixture of working people/professional, families and a sizeable elderly population. The speed bumps were initially put there to deter joyriders. They are all over that part of Nether Edge, all the way down to the Glen Road area and streets off Abbeydale Rd. Also the residential home that houses alcoholics and ex prisoners etc is at the foot of Oakhill Rd on Byron Rd Edited February 5, 2018 by ICXCNIKA
 Share this content via...

DerbyTup   10 #9 Posted February 5, 2018 It was once a grand and wealthy suburb of Sheffield.  Its large detached houses and tree-lined boulevards made it one of the most desirable areas to live.  Over the years the large houses became rented out as flats and bedsits and a new, less wealthy, population of folk moved in.  Students, immigrants and those of a strong far-left political persuasion. Hippy types who do not believe in shampoo, gender or discipline.  It has some very quirky, eclectic, sort of places to go. I quite like it actually, but not sure I'd want to live there. medusa   16 #10 Posted February 5, 2018 I have a friend who lives on Oakhill Road and they are really happy there. They were burgled by a sneak thief a couple of years ago, but at the time were unaware that there was a fault with their door which made it way too easy for the little scrote. These days they lock their doors properly like everybody else.
 Share this content via...
