Sheffield Cathedral removing pews

Recommended Posts

is this right, Sheffield Cathedral will gradually be removing the pews in the Nave. The occasion which has prompted this temporary re-ordering is the Sheffield Chamber of Commerce President’s Dinner which this year will be hosted by the Cathedral, with catering profits going to support the Cathedral Archer Project’s work with the homeless and vulnerable. In order to seat several hundred diners, the Cathedral will be transformed as its pews are carefully coded, removed and stored – before being put back early the following week.

i thought that they were removing them for good. because of the cathedrals craving for catering for even more fee paying dinners... those pews are over two hundred years old. is this what health and safety is now??

They need the space for important building work, that the pews are obstucting.

Not that any building work will be seen after the pews are removed for this urgent important work......

They will need the seating though, it's amazing how far a few loaves and fish will stretch :)

Seriously though it does sound like they are being removed and then replaced with care

Ignoring Mollys usual comments. If you look on their website they are intending to rebuild a significant portion of the building so I suspect that even Molly might accept they could be a bit in the way and might get a bit damaged!!!
