The 1911 census page has George Herbert Skellington, age 45, "Manager of Foreign Department of Steel Manufacturing Company" living at Aughton with his wife Mary Elizabeth and children including George Herbert Godfrey Skellington, age 17 - here is a scan.

The 1925 and 1931 Kelly's directories show "Skellington, Geo. Herbert steel mfr. (Skellingtons Ltd.)", at 66 Clarkegrove Road (1925) and 38 Collegiate Crescent (1931). However, the 1942 Kelly's Directory indicates that by then, father and son both worked for B.K. Morton & Co. Ltd. - see here. Perhaps their own firm had been taken over by B.K. Morton.

We are pleased to announce that Mr. G. H. Godfrey Skellington, one of the directors

of Skellington's Ltd of Atalanta Steel Works, only son of Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Skellington

of "Westbourne", Broomhall Park, has become engaged to Miss Helen Gray, youngest

daughter of the late Mr. James Gray and Mrs Gray of "Ellerslie", Williamstown, Melbourne.

The family was formerley resident in Scotland and is well known in Sheffield steel circles.

There is an article in the Sheffield Daily Telegraph dated 15 March 1915. It concerns the

will of Mr. William Edgar Allen (Edgar Allen & Co.), of Whirlow House, Sheffield.

The list of people benefitting from the will is very long and includes many of the

staff. "Bequest of ordinary shares in Edgar Allen & Co. to:- £1,000 each to

George H. Skellington (+ four others)".

Whether this is your George I don't know, but looks promising.

This looks like the parents of George.

There are some details of the Skellington family on the geni.com website - see here for George snr's entry, with links to other family members.

Kelly's directories confirm the merger of the family firm with Morton's - entries from the mid-1930s onwards read "B.K. Morton & Co. Ltd. (incorporating Skellington's)". George snr. died in 1951 and George jnr. in 1965; his sister Gladys Fanny Marie Skellington [30.1.1896 - 15.7.1988] was also a director of Morton's.

Hi, We have just found this thread today and are very interested in the discussion of my wife's family, the Skellingtons. We have recently cleared the family home and kept the records of the Steel Manufacturing companies which began from George working as the manager of the Tool Steel Department at Edgar Allan to developing Skellington Steel, taking over B K Morton, trading as Rayo and eventually moving out of manufacturing through his son Godfrey as a sales agency as Tulchan Ltd.

We would pleased to share further.

Hi benhelanv.

I have just seen your post. My wife Liz has been in touch with you about Nora. I am the chairman of Aston History Group and we are researching your family as they were prominent people in the village. You may have or should receive some information from Ann, our secretary.

Best Wishes. Brian.
