What are people’s thoughts on tranquility base hotel and casino by the Arctic Monkeys?

I think it’s a tremendous album.

I think it's self indulgent MOR nonsense, having just streamed it and been glad to have not actually bought it.

Alex Turners new album more like. Its pretentious, self indulgent and dull.

Ive listened to it a few times thinking it might be a 'grower' but no, I still dont like it.

What makes you say that?

I think the music and vocals are superb and the lyrics are fantastic.

I think it’s probably their best yet. Certainly top 2.

I'm reminded of the famous Simpsons episode where there is a flashback to when Homer was a teenager and Grandpa Simpson pointing the finger at him says "It will happen to you". It's also about taste, and on another level, freedom of choice.

If you want to discover some interesting new stuff then head over to http://www.jamendo.com - ahh Creative Commons Licences are sooo refreshing!

I also discovered industrial music on a GNU/Linux forum that sadly is no longer but the music I have been drawn to is still there: Mind-in-a-Box, and THYX.

Apologies to Admins if this is going 'off-topic'.

And for blasts from the past, 'Absolute 80'S'.:D

Self-indulgent pap, and thats just the title of the album.

Then again, now that the singer lives in the Hollywood Hills you are hardly going to be getting gritty songs about (e.g.) going down to Greggs or catching the bus.

What do you think makes it self-indulgent?

And why would you want gritty songs about going down to greggs?

The title, for starters.

Can you please challenge the Admin on the same opinion, please? :D

I did post #4.

I'm not having a go either - I'm interested as it's clearly split opinion massively.

It just feels like its all about him. All the interviews make me feel the same too.

The guitars werent inspiring HIM anymore, HE got a piano, HE'S embarrassed by his old lyrics etc etc.

I get that they reinvent themselves to an extent with every album, but theyve always kept the things that make them them. The wit, the catchy choruses etc. I feel like thats all gone with this album.

The songs all sound too similar. None are particularly memorable. Publicity-wise tho theyve played a blinder, I cant remember any album talked about more than this one.

I will give it another go, mainly because we're going to see them, but I also cant imagine how any of the tracks will come across in a live gig?

Have to wait and see I suppose.
