gamezone07 Â Â 23 #1 Posted August 17, 2018 Lots of recently empty shops/closures on middle of Abbeydale Road, the retro shop has gone, Pickles, even the Charity shop next to Brigazzis, are the rent going sky high or are middle classes struggling more, etc? bassett one   451 #2 Posted August 21, 2018 shops in general seem to be a thing that is drying up due to costs, you can buy on line and just stay at home, really sad as in the 60s /70s you had to pay key money then rent.
 Share this content via...
Nijinsky   10 #3 Posted August 21, 2018 Rent and rates set by the greedy brigade.  Housing policy in this country is crazy. We now have a generation who pay an obscene percentage of their wages on either a mortgage or rent.  ---------- Post added 21-08-2018 at 21:28 ----------  My nephew pays £550 per month rent and only earns £1200 p/m. Result is next to no disposable income.
 Share this content via...

bendix   10 #8 Posted August 22, 2018 It is becoming gentrified with the lower end places like charity shops being cleared out and higher end businesses catering to the new local demographic moving in. Bragazzis is expanding next door which is a huge positive. Pickles hasn’t closed down - quite the opposite. It is renovating. Other old empty stores are being taken over by the likes of Nether Edge Pizza Co, the high end afternoon tea place and new restaurants like the veggie place, the Italian coffee store and the new Greek cafe up near Tesco’s.  In effect, the exact opposite of what the OP is suggesting is taking place. GinTreeS7 Â Â 18 #10 Posted August 23, 2018 Yes quite the opposite of what the OP is saying is happening on Abbeydale Rd - the place is on the up and up ... myriads of bohemian cafes now and specialist independent shops, bakeries, herbalist, barbers and the antique shops have stopped closing down too - more now than a few years ago .... and even a new real ale bar to open tomorrow night apparently ! Baron99 Â Â 794 #11 Posted August 24, 2018 Well here's details of the new micro bar opening. Just along from the old & now thriving Abbeydale Cinema. Â Â https://m.facebook.com/barrowboybar/
 Share this content via...
Baron99   794 #12 Posted September 11, 2018 (edited) Noticed last weekend, recently opened restaurant / café 'The Greek Village', just over the road from the Abbeydale Cinema, was doing plenty of business.  Venture a bit further on & you'll find 'Tea With Percie' & 'The Old Coach House' just after Marden Rd.  There's also a shop near Bragazzi's with a notice in the window about a vegan café due to open soon.  My recommendation down Abbeydale way; try 'Urban-Ita'. Good food & a decent place for a coffee. Edited September 11, 2018 by Baron99 Amendments
 Share this content via...
