They'll turn a blind eye. He's a Labour MP which means he's a "remainer" and that's all that really matters to them.

I've probably been as guilty as him when commenting on the Lucy Worsley Appreciation Facebook site. Obviously if I thought I would ever get into a position of power and responsibility I'd ask Google to delete any references to my unfortunate comments and the resultant court hearing.

As it is...he's obviously a cockwomble, but the present govt are even worse, I don't think he would ever deny tax credits to rape victims.

It is the Peoples Republic of South Yorkshire Hackey,i really wasn't expecting anything else in Sheffield to be honest.Thats why I said who will be the first to defend him.I turned on left wing politics many years ago when I realised that it was full of a lot of arrogant, totalitarian bullies.I had too many relatives who were preaching socialism to me all the time and advocating unpleasantries against people perceived to be rich.I have given up on politics nowadays.

Firstly, the government aren't denying tax credits to rape victims, as the guardian article clearly explains. Indeed, rape victims are exempt from the two child limit precisely so that they aren't denied credits.

I don't want to divert the topic of conversation however, so am wary of mentioning it. Perhaps there is an existing thread where this line of discussion could be continued if necessary..

Secondly, it doesn't really matter (for the sake of this discussion) if they were anyway. There are probably loads of things the government have done that are worse than some misogynistic and homophobic comments and actions. But that's not what we are talking about. There's almost always going to be something worse or more important that we could be discussing, but that's not how these threads and general discussions work..

But the comments were 14 years ago before he was on the committee, he's done a lot worse since.

He apparently also thinks anti-ginger comments are racist so it seems he's not exactly the sharpest tool in the box either..

Well I've met him, before he was a politician and he seemed the least "political" person you could ever meet. I didn't like him and didn't trust him and it was a complete shock when I found out he'd become an MP.

He's done a lot of good stuff too though, so steady with that pitchfork.
so what he still said it and he is peoples mp
