I don't think you've contributed enough over the years to be able to comment.

It would be interesting to see some stats of forum usage.
I use it whenever I have a need and find it quite useful.

Some members may post on a daily basis - no issues with that.

Basically, if you don't like the forum then leave and go elsewhere.
If you do like it, then post something of interest and increase the forum's activity.

You can't please everybody at the same time.

Things have changed.

There used to be regular meet ups, where everyone was welcome.
Now there are groups that require a vetting process in tge form of a one-to-one interview before you are allowed to meet the group.
WTF is that all about?

How odd. Unless it's something like a competitive sports group with a certain standard ability/attainment requirement, or similar.

Is this the sort of thing you want:

https://www.similarweb.com/website/sheffieldforum.co.uk

There are other sites that can give more a detailed overview comparing past years but you wont get individual forum stats.

The OP says-i think its time is up.

That does not sound like it comes from a person that is absolutely loving it. It sounds like the words of someone who is bored or fed up with it. I suggest the OP moves on some place if not happy.

I think, the OP was posing the question somewhat provocatively, but fairly. There are many other sites available that are more local and often more effective, that just weren't around previously.
This site is full of discussion and comment, some of it good humoured and some fairly unpleasant. Other sites are more open minded and not so controlling and dictatorial; it really depends on what you are looking for.
I use a variety of sites and I am happy with that.

If you live by elitist big poster alchresearch's rules then you have not posted enough to make such a suggestion.
