Sheffield University Spring 2009 Concert Season
Tuesday 05 May, 7.30pm
Sheffield University Firth Hall

Camarilla Ensemble

Mozart:
Fantasia in F minor, K.608
Zemlinsky: Humoreske (Rondo)
Gordon Jacob: Sextet in B flat, Op.6
Ligeti: Bagatelles
Poulenc: Sextuor

Camarilla Ensemble are the 2008 winners of The Royal Overseas League Chamber Music Competition. The members of Camarilla met during their studies at the Royal Academy of Music and since graduating have held a Leverhulme Chamber Music Fellowship there. This had enabled them to research, perform and promote British music which has led to the commission of a new piece by Karl Jenkins.

Their past performances include recitals for the Pinner Festival under the auspices of Young Concert Artists Trust, at St.Martin in the Fields, St.David’s Hall and Millenium Centre in Cardiff at Bryn Terfel’s Faenol Festival and for CHIKS Charity at Frensham Heights in Surrey. They have more recently recorded the soundtrack for a channel 4 film animation. Concerti performances include Mozart’s ‘Sinfonia Concertante’ with RAM Sinfonia and Bax’s ‘Concertante for Three Wind and Orchestra’ with the Sirius Ensemble. Individual members have performed extensively in the UK and internationally, working with Sir Elton John, Bombay Chamber Orchestra, Royal Opera House and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra amongst others. The ensemble enjoys a programme of varied engagements from recitals to workshops, and has been coached by such eminent musicians as Sir Colin Davis, Sebastien Bell and Matthew Souter.

Our evening concerts are designed to be an informal, cost effective way to enjoy great classical and world music. Complimentary wine and refreshments are offered during the interval, as well as a free programme. Free parking is available in Durham Road car park, behind the Octagon Centre.

Tickets: £8, £5 (concessions), £2.50 (students/unwaged)
