The Consequences of Brexit [part 4]

Recommended Posts

From this linked article, we have the following quote that seems to sum up where we find ourselves in the negotiations at the moment:

Michel Barnier, the EU’s chief negotiator, has said Theresa May's red lines mean Britain can only get a free trade agreement similar to the ones the EU has with Canada and South Korea, but the UK said today that this “shallow level of cooperation” was “inconsistent with our ambition”, which would require “a more formal and deeper institutional structure”.
Basically, the EU has acknowledged and is respecting the UK’s red lines. But the UK is unhappy that the EU does so, and still after cakeism

I think the reason why we haven't seen any progress 2 years after the vote is crystal clear, tbh. As is the ever-strengthening likelihood of a no-deal Brexit. Surely that’s good news for the ultras on here.

It’s like Giselle Stuart on IV meth

People should keep an eye on her; Caroline Flint and Jess Phillips will beat her up in the Houses of Parliament toilets. :hihi:

The Parliamentary Remainers, while masquerading as Leavers, are working to keep us under the control of the EU. No doubt about it. Parliament, including May, want us to remain in the EU in all but name.

LOL, Brexiters sure are quick to point the blame anywhere but themselves :suspect:

The current state of affair was entirely predictable, it was discussed at length before the referendum.

There is no "deep state", you were lied to and clearly you still can't accept it.

Brexit and the benefits it would bestow as described by Farage, Gove, Johnson, Mogg is simply not deliverable.

Didn't you notice the look of horror on Boris' face the morning after the ref as he proclaimed that he didn't want to be PM afterall... then exited stage left?

It's pretty telling that they, as yet, have been unable to offer any solutions whatsoever to any of the issues that have been raised!

What a joke:

UK will build own satellite system if frozen out of EU's Galileo – chancellor

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2018/may/25/galileo-uk-will-build-own-satellite-system-if-frozen-out-of-eu-brexit

Pretty much all they can say. It's the "massive bung" option discussed earlier.

In a week where each household has been asked what they think about finding another ÂŁ2000 to fund the NHS into the future, and that the bureaucracy involved with trade is going to eat that "ÂŁ350m for the NHS"... *and then some*, you have to wonder how credible it is.

The IP angle's got very weak legs.

In the end I suspect it'll be agreement on security grounds and continued funding from the UK that gets the UK access. The thing brexiters don't want (apparently).

Good luck

A) Getting your billion back

B) Building your own for less. Perhaps with Blackjack and hookers? (Futurama reference)

Article 122 (7b) of the draft Withdrawal Agreement states that the UK can be excluded from programmes which "grant access to security related sensitive information that only Member States (or nationals of Member States, or natural or legal persons residing or established in a Member State) are to have knowledge of”. This text was highlighted in green, meaning, as explained at the top of the document, that it was "agreed at negotiators' level" and would "only be subject to technical legal revisions in the coming weeks".

UK negotiators (presumably David Davis), signed up to losing access to Galileo in full knowledge that was the case. The billion is included in the divorce settlement. He was in a rush to get it signed off, probably thought no-one would care, or it wouldn't make the papers. Fingers Crossed!

Like the NI border, Brexiters have been lied to... and yet again, they're lapping it up!

Oh I dunno, Gisela now thinks the EU referendum was an “abuse of democratic process” and said she would rather it had never been called.

So they probably have more in common than you think ;)

Oh dear,

"Project Fear DEFEATED: Poll reveals UK public can’t WAIT for Brexit Britain"

https://www.express.co.uk/news/politics/964240/brexit-news-economy-single-market-customs-union-brexit-poll

Oh dear!

The article refers to a survey of investors, not a poll of the public, which shows between 19% and 29% of various investors of varying age categories are optimistic at the prospect of Brexit.

ie a significant majority aren't!

Let's see shall we. A truly commercial system could be quite a money spinner for the UK and partners.

Absolutely, except it'll take years - anyone want to buy an old road atlas?

You're an engineer too so I'm sure that you will agree that it certainly wouldn't take nearly as long as Galileo since the tech and expertise is existing, and of course it will be a new generation system with greater commercial value and lower operational costs, lower administration costs for sure (!) and the potential to undercut Galileo with a better system.

That said, the EU is playing with fire. I hear that 21 EU nations have had UK/Galileo assistance with cyber attacks. And what happens when the UK withdraws our military cover from the Baltic nations because we don't have military grade open access to Galileo?

The EU most certainly doesn't hold all the cards here, and that's before the UK simply deducts the cash from the Brexit bill.

Can't believe leavers would want our armed forces being organised by an unelected group of foreigners.

Such a deliciously ironic post. I can only assume that you had something useful to add but forgot while wiping away the spittle from your keyboard.

There's loads of space below for a better contribution to the discussion. :)

Lets have it right, leavers have no idea what they want beyond cakeism.

Theresa May's Brexit red lines will make Britain a 'haven for criminals':

More rheotric to be replaced with reality? Is the cake a lie... something tells me it might be :suspect:
