Asaw   10 #25 Posted May 10, 2018 One Sheffield firm had a football pitch behind Owlerton Stadium in the sixties I forget which,it was used daily by Sheffield Wednesday for training!.In those days they didn't have a training ground, the players had to walk down Penistone Road carrying the ,caseballs in net sacks from the stadium across the dog track car park to the pitch and back again when training finished!.As kids we nicked many balls off them as they never bothered to count up when they packed in for the day!. At one time wednesday played there Hatchard league games there.  ---------- Post added 10-05-2018 at 11:08 ----------  I think Hall and Pickles used to have a football ground at the back of the factory in Ecclesfield. My dad played in goal for them in the 1950s.   Saw Outibridge Silica works team there once.  ---------- Post added 10-05-2018 at 11:12 ----------  Remember when they built a stand etc.Think it was for the Jewish community on Wadsley common(Rather classy I thought at the time,) later Sheffield Rangers were on there in the 90's
 Share this content via...
