"Key 103" Manchester bites the dust - Hallam FM next?

Recommended Posts

If this rebrand is successful no doubt all the other local station heritage names owned by the same group (which include Viking FM in Hull, Radio Aire in Leeds and Hallam FM down here) will bite the dust too.

Thoughts?

They are getting a slating on Twitter for this, and on their own FB page.

Manchester has a lot of local radio competition though, and they can all be picked up clearly on FM due to the flat layout of the land. Sadly they're all beginning to sound the same.

Mainly because on the most part they are.

Most large stations are either owned by Bauer or Global, playlist etc are all set and in general the pop music stations are pretty homogenous.

These stations come and go, mainly because there isn't much to differentiate between them all.

Hallam FM these days is exactly the same as the other stations in the group bar for a few daytime shows.

Hallam FM is truly awful and has been for years, good riddance if true.

It's not the first time it has been rebranded. Key 103 began as Piccadilly Radio in the early 1970's. It used to be a very good local radio station.

Except this time it isnt a local station changing its name to continue as a local station.

The substitute if/when it happens in South Yorkshire would be equally as awful, and no local relevant to the local area at all.
