Just a quick reminder about our bonfire event on Friday this week at the Transport Club...which will be the best ever!!!! As always, our main priority is keeping everyone safe throughout the evening so please pay attention to these very basic points...

There will be no on-site parking, but there will be disabled drop off access for anyone needing it.

As ever there will be no personal fireworks of any sort allowed on site.

Please supervise children at all times, and please don't let your under 16s visit the event without adults accompanying them.

Our bars will serve only plastic glasses for both inside and outside use, and any bottles will be poured into plastic to prevent any glass injuries from discarded bottles.

We will have professional security staff on site at all times to ensure people keep away from hazardous areas, but please use your common sense and keep children well clear of the fire, it's fully fenced to a height of 6 feet...but we all know kids can move very quickly when they are excited!!!!

We hope everyone has a smashing time with us, and we'd like to thank everyone who has helped to put this event together again this year. It's only because we have such fantastic people working together in our area that we can keep this great family event going...so a huge thank you to everyone!!!!

glad you enjoyed it,the weather was perfect, need to reduce queues on food and drinks, need some rails, need to consider a toddlers firework area early, but 5 years ago we had fireworks off the roof and 1,000 folks, now it was approx 10 thousand over the night, glad you enjoyed the event and i am sure it will continue to get better thanks

We could tell that there were a huge increase in numbers when we got there at 7.30ish. It was a lot more crowded than last year's event with what seemed be the same amount of stalls. More railings definately needed and maybe more stewards in other parts aswell as round the fire ? But with growth comes experience and lessons learnt. Maybe talk with the club about the area that the stalls are on being expanded if possible to allow for less crowding? I love were the actual fire is lit because it is in a good ''contained'' area with enough room for people to move round if they are sensible about it.

We attended, however had left by 7.45pm unfortunately. It seemed far too busy around the funfair area....i wonder why you have acres of spare grass being left unused and why more of it can’t be utilised for this popular event?!

The big bonfire was great, and as previously said a good separate area created for that to be held. However, an earlier fireworks display is needed though, young families and children can’t be expected to hang around until 9pm for them (Dronfield have 2 displays at 7pm and 8pm for example). I have dug out the message I posted three years back below, but it appears the feedback was not taken on board -

“Hi, We are really looking forward to attending the bonfire event at Meadowhead on Friday as a family and supporting it as local residents. Although. I have just seen from the above post that the firework display does not start until 9pm, isn't this a little late for people with small children who wished to see some fireworks?

Wouldn't it be an idea to do a smaller display for the younger kids earlier on before the main one at 9? Just a thought, sure I am not the only one with small children who won't be still there at 9pm! Look forward to the event nonetheless”

—-

In my opinion if you were to hold an earlier fireworks display for younger children and created a bit more space for the event, you would be creating one of the best events in the local area.

Thanks to everyone for their feedback on the bonfire event. We appreciate your comments and will discuss them all at our next meeting. One point just to consider though is that although we appear to have "acres of spare ground" that most of it is playing surfaces which have to be protected. There's also the issue of lighting larger areas which isn't always easy. The idea of a small early display for younger children is something we will definitely consider but it may need a number of extra volunteers..which are very hard to come by!! On the whole we've had some smashing comments about this event, so we will try our best to keep improving!!! Many thanks once again to everyone who worked so very hard, and to everyone who visited!!!
