Dog won’t stop sniffing

My neighbour has a spaniel which has suddenly started walking/running round the yard sniffing, even in the house she is sniffing, she took her to the vetsThursday but didn’t seem concerned, anybody have any ideas why she could be doing it and how to stop her. She is a dog who normally comes running to the gate, barking at us when we come in but nothing seems to distract her
