I heard one of the scientists talking about it today on Radio 4, how they had to miniaturise everything and then put it in Space and it worked.

i thought that they'd *made* the condensate, not found it...

and i thought gravity waves had already been detected, by LIGO ?

The existence of gravitational waves has, of course, already been proved. What the BEC research opens up is possible new ways of detecting them in space, without the gravity complications associated with earth bound experiments. there are also plans for space based interferometry measurements which will enable a much larger region of space to be monitored.
