What is Dr Sketchy’s?

From illegal flashmobs to the Museum of Modern Art, Dr. Sketchy’s has brought artists a rule-breaking cocktail of dames, drinking, and drawing.

Dr. Sketchy’s was founded in December 2005 in New York City by Molly Crabapple, an illustrator and former artist’s model. Bored with the sterile classes she had posed for, Molly started Dr. Sketchy’s on the basis of fair pay for models and boozy, decadent fun for all.

Dr Sketchy’s now has a home in over 150 cities around the world, all adhering to the same ethos as Molly’s original event but each run independently by artistic individuals.

For more information see the official Dr Sketchy’s website.

Dr Sketchy Sheffield

Everyone is welcome to come and draw in a fun, relaxed atmosphere at Dr Sketchy’s Sheffield. So whether you’re a non-artist, lapsed etcher, or fully fledged professional come along for a drink and an opportunity to have a go at a new kind of life-drawing session.

Our events will provide you with the unique opportunity to draw some of the UK’s (and World’s) best performers and their dazzling costumes, from the worlds of burlesque, circus, cabaret, roller derby, dance, music and much more! As well as posing for your drawing pleasure, our models often perform live for your entertainment!

Dr Sketchy’s Sheffield sessions have a theme and to add to the fun we run competitions throughout the event to win goodies from our sponsors.

Our regular events are held at The Greystones (Pub), Greystones Road, S11 7BS but we will occasionally hold additional ‘one off’ Dr Sketchy events to coincide with festivals, exhibitions and special occasions in Sheffield and South Yorkshire.

If you would like further information please email: drsketchysheffield@gmail.com or VelvetBurlesque@aol.com

Structure of the event & what you need to bring

Doors will open 15 minutes before the event begins so you can find a space and get settled. You may want to arrive early to get a good spot.
You are allowed to bring art boards or small easels if required.

You must provide your own art materials (DRY materials only please! No paints). We advise you bring a sketch pad, and then pencils/charcoal pencils/coloured pencils, an eraser and a pencil sharpener.

At each event there will usually be three or more models, there may be performances or demonstrations too. There will be warm up exercises to start with, leading up to longer poses and group poses, lasting from 5 mins to 30 mins. There is a break during the event for refreshments.

Due to the nature of the session and the venue Dr Sketchy’s Sheffield is usually an over-18s only event. However, we do allow under-18s if accompanied by an adult and if the particular event is deemed suitable!

We hope to meet you soon!

Lara & Andrea.

Hi!

We at Dr Sketchy Sheffield are looking for a heavily tattooed Gentleman who would be happy to model for us at our next event; "Get Your Tatts Out with Dr. Sketchy Sheffield", on Saturday 8th March in Sheffield. (1pm-4.30pm)

You do not need any modelling experience or devilishly good looks - we just need you to be very heavily tattooed, and willing to pose (stand/sit still!) for a few times during the event.

Please contact me (Lara) at VelvetBurlesque@aol.com if you are interested. (Please include photo`s.)

This is a paid post, with a set fee, however would best suit people in and around the Sheffield area (as we cannot afford to pay additional travel expenses for people any further afield).

I look forward to hearing from anyone who is interested.

Many thanks,

Lara
