Is this a rip off? anyone know the law on employment?

Recommended Posts

rather than Ltd do you just mean sole trader? No expert but you might want to check your self employed tax and NI - the NI isnt the cheap deal it used to be

£30 per week sound excessive - our little business is looking to take on employees for the first time (we are an LLP and everyone currently is self employed) it is going to cost us £20 a month for our book keeper to do all the PAYE, admin and pension etc - for 5 employees!

EDIT - just read the whole thread . . . glad you got somewhere with them

To defend agencies (because we use them to find work) they have there uses. The good ones are very open about the financial side and they have the time to maintain all the working relationships with lots of differnt clients - there is no way we could do what they do. But some are amazingly brash about it, 30% to 50% markup on day rates isnt un common, even in the public sector

Two things I would suggest to people signing on with agencies;

1) read the agreement they want you to sign. If charges are in there that are not appropriate, say so

2) look around and compare agencies. Know who to speak to in government to be sure

of what is legitimate
