Premier League becoming a closed shop, richest clubs getting richer.

Recommended Posts

An interesting article about the money in the Premier League. A £100m gap opened up between Premier League and English Football League clubs before a record TV rights deal even took effect, the BBC has found. More and more Championship clubs are spending beyond their means chasing a place at English football's top table.

In 2016, 16 out of 24 Championship clubs spent more than 100% of their turnover on staff costs, including their players, coaches, management and administrators

This simply isn't true - Huddersfield and Brighton have gone and never been in the premier league before, Bournemouth (one of the few teams never have to have been relegated from the premier league outside of the big boys) have stayed up and not spent the earth. In fact in the premier league has had 47 different teams in it over 25 years. That's over half of the professional sides!

It's down to whether clubs are well run (Bournemouth, Stoke, Everton) or not (coventry, Leeds, Portsmouth).

Sunderland recently lost 0-5 at home to Celtic in a friendly,so it's not all about the money (Sunderland have more money I believe)

Maybe just 95-99 percent related!

The EPL should be renamed the WPL. The World Premier League.

Hardly a English player no more with all the money coming in via worldwide television and cable sales.

I read recently that Sunderland, who were not only relegated from the Premier but finished bottom (2016-17 season), received more in parachute payments (due to an influx of more TV money) than did Leicester City, for winning the Premier the season before, This just gets dafter !
