PRESLEY Â Â 1,230 #1 Posted November 15, 2017 Stoke council are selling houses for a quid. You cant get on a bus for a quid in Sheffield.
 Share this content via...
geared   319 #2 Posted November 15, 2017 Not the first time they've done it either if memory serves??  Good way of quickly regenerating an area, the buyers commit to living there for a number of years to prevent BTL and others scooping them up. rudds1 Â Â 102 #3 Posted November 15, 2017 I believe the buyers have to get them in to a reasonable condition within a limited. time scale if they need stuff doing them. Newcastle did a similar scheme a few years ago
 Share this content via...
melthebell   864 #4 Posted November 15, 2017 sheffield have done it before, dont think they were a quid tho
 Share this content via...
Resident   1,193 #5 Posted November 15, 2017 Like previous similar schemes I believe that the owner must also be the occupier for a number of years.
 Share this content via...
spilldig   190 #6 Posted November 15, 2017 Manchester also did it a few years ago.
 Share this content via...
PRESLEY Â Â 1,230 #7 Posted November 15, 2017 Like previous similar schemes I believe that the owner must also be the occupier for a number of years. Â No these were stood empty. It is a scheme to help the housing crisis. The concil part refurb the property, The new tentant over a priod of time pays the council back what the council has spent then the tenant pays for rest of the refurb. Anna B Â Â 1,414 #9 Posted November 15, 2017 Great idea. Â Surely that's better than having them stand empty and derelict.
 Share this content via...

The Joker   10 #11 Posted November 16, 2017 Great idea. Surely that's better than having them stand empty and derelict.  I think it’s a terrible idea.  Sheffield city council has past experience of giving away assets for a measly quid and it didn’t end well at all  Do you think they’ll collect the £1 this time ? Ms Macbeth   75 #12 Posted November 16, 2017 Great idea. Surely that's better than having them stand empty and derelict.  Stoke council have bought 12 vacant houses, and are possibly going to compulsorily purchase some more. Part of the deal is prospective buyers pay back £60k to the council over 15 years. There are quite stringent conditions for would be buyers, a local connection being one.  The previous scheme they ran has worked well, helping regenerate a run down area. No BTL landlords would qualify. I think it's a good idea, empty, run down properties are a blight on any neighbourhood.  (My iPad isn't working too well or I'd have added a link.)
