Abcdefghijkl   10 #25 Posted September 5, 2017 Hi Caza, sorry I can't reply to your message as I am a new user!! I am sure your father is referring to mum. There can't have been another Jean Emery!? She did leave Fulwood and as collected by her mum, so she wasn't adopted but she didn't know her mother because she had been in the home for so long. She had a younger baby sister there too who she didn't get to see. She cannot remember being collected in a car? I hope that helps x
 Share this content via...
Hopman   46 #26 Posted September 5, 2017 Was Fairthorn Children's Home around at that time?
 Share this content via...
skippy   11 #27 Posted September 12, 2017 I remember Lodge Moor Hospital, and also Crimicar Lane Hospital in the 40's, Fairthorne Lodge was a bit further down the road at Redmires, I think that was for children who had lung problems like athsma etc, the fresh air helped them to breathe easier. The only place like an orphanage that I remember was Fulwood Cottage Homes, I went to Crookes school with quite a few people from there, the majority of them could not live at home for one reason or another, but I can't remember any of them being orphans, although I guess there may have been some in the late 40's.
