Even though your post is a few hours after the game, it could still have been the end of footy traffic. Even though Hillsbro is pretty chaotic for an hour after the game, it can take a couple at least to get back to normal (which to be fair can be busy at anytime) - still a few supporters having drinks after too, which contributes to slowing flow, especially through Hillsbro corner.

There are lots of flowers and Wednesday scarves round a post outside the old Charlie Browns shop on Penistone Road this morning but not sure if that was anything to do with it

I went through Hillsborough about 7pm on the tram and it was clear as bell then, unless the OP is talking about Penistone Rd..

Well Penistone Road is hit and miss, regardless of the football.

I might now rant about the enterprise vehicle delivery wagon that blocks the left hand lane every other day around lunch time (corner leppings)

There was a very serious motorbike accident at that spot the other night.

It was a Sheffield Wednesday fan who sadly passed away after the match outside the old Charle Browns
