Premier League winter break

Recommended Posts

Just reading on SkySports that a Premier League winter break is set to be confirmed in the next fortnight. From February 2020, Premier League clubs will have a staggered break that will guarantee all 20 clubs at least 13 days between games.

The poor souls they need a rest between games, can't expect them to play too much for the vast amounts of money they get. What about teams in the lower leagues that play 46 games plus cup matches. Would imagine most PL clubs go to away matches a day before so they are not travelling on the same day as the game. A lot of the smaller FL clubs travel to matches and back on the same day because they can't afford to stay in hotels.

So the winter break has been confirmed, Nearly half of national team footballers who play in 50 or more matches a season said they felt they played "too many" games. The FA Cup fifth round will be moved to midweek dates outside the period set aside for the break, with replays being scrapped at that stage. Do the powers that be ever consider the fans, who travel the length and breadth of the country supporting their teams.

The FA along with Sky & BT, stopped caring about the average football fan years ago with the endless tampering with the fixtures to suit tv & advertising.

As for a winter break? Let them have one & see if they get any benefit in the long run? As I understand it, one of the conditions of the break is that teams can't fly off to play exhibition / friendlies & line their pockets but I'll bet they get round this somehow.

And if the fixtures need reducing then everyone in the FA draw drum from round one. You'll soon see Premier clubs stop moaning about the number of fixtures they have to face, when many fail to get past the 3rd or 4th round.

This wouldnt actually reduce the number of fixtures needed to win the FA Cup for teams in the top two divisions.

Assuming you mean all 92 League clubs enter in round 1, and they are joined by 36 non-league sides from the preliminary rounds to make a flat draw of 128, they would have to win a minimum of 7 games to win the cup which is more than the minimum needed now.

So struggling to see your point here.
