MaTReC Possible Closure July 2018

Recommended Posts

MaTReC has been established for 31 years and is an adult education provider based on Prince of Wales Road on the Manor Estate in Sheffield. , we are also a registered charity.

We have had our funding cut yearly for the last 3/4 years and are now on a wind down contract facing closure in July this year.

We help people in the local community gain qualifications in Maths, English and ICT, and help them gain the skills and confidence they need to re enter the job market.

Many of our learners have complex additional needs such as mental health, depression, anxiety, and learning difficulties such as dyslexia.

We are desperate to stay open as we are the only organisation of our kind that remains in this area.

We are a grade 2 Ofsted provider with an outstanding matrix assessment report.

We need approximately £150,000 to run for a year, this pays for us to train around 100 learners, employ 8 staff and pays for the buildings running costs.

Our learners are very upset that this service could be lost as the majority would not have the confidence to attend any other provider; many are in the process of writing/emailing our local MPand or signing our petition https://www.change.org/p/paul-blomfield-help-save-matrec-manor-training-resource-centre-from-closure?recruiter=863368196&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=copylink&utm_campaign=share_petition

We desperately need as much support as possible!

Could you help?

Have you looked into the possiblity of sharing a building, there has been reports recently about Da Hood boxing club that are currently using the old school at the Manor Top rent free at the moment , however a change of building may be on the cards due to development.

Could this be an idea to think about a long multi use community asset that could serve many local community based projects, sharing the building between many groups could make any rental costs far cheaper to all involved
