sheffman   10 #1 Posted October 4, 2009 My father in law who is recently retired and more recently berieved is having trouble finding social events focused for people in his age group/ position.  Any sugestions would be welcome, he is based in Owlthorpe but still drives. Dozy   11 #4 Posted October 4, 2009 Lunch clubs are very popular - search the Help Yourself Database, use the bottom search field, they're listed by postcode. And if he's interested in any sports, activities, etc, you can do a search on that, too. Some local churches do coffee mornings and lunches weekly.  Local community centres sometimes do things like tea dances, art clubs, book clubs, etc, so it might be worth checking out if there's a local one.  If he's still active, he could do some volunteering, check out the VAS site, there are usually loads of volunteers needed.  Another option is health walks, if he likes to get out and about. rubydazzler   11 #8 Posted October 4, 2009 Lunch clubs! lol Dozy, if he's only just retired, he's not in his dotage, presumably It's a constant moan of mine, there's no decent places for the over 50s to go for a night out. What are we expected to do for entertainment, everything's geared to students and the under 30s.  Although having recently been bereaved, he'll probably not be that much in the mood for socialising right now. Condolences for your loss, as well.  If he finds anything worth doing, post it on here for us all, we might like to go along as well.
