jennycakes   11 #1 Posted October 5, 2009 we are moving into a new house it has the bt socket boxes in one downstairs and one upstairs, the lines are already in place.  we was told just to ring bt and tell them we want the line switching on.  we have rung then told then dates we are moving to be told we will have no bt number until 6 days after we are in the property,so no broadband or phone  also we will be billed £122.50 plus vat for a new line we have told them its a new build and lines are there she says they have no record,  also want to charge us £30 for 3 month to have our calls from our old number to be diverted to our new number  does this sound right im sure i didnt have all this last time we moved?? Berberis   10 #2 Posted October 5, 2009 Unfortunately new builds are charged as if a new line is being installed. BT does the work for free for the builder and then bill the new occupant.  Nothing is really free with BT. The call diver will cost.  Re: the time delay on the line becoming active, that’s rubbish, they can do it the day you request. Call them back and if they say the same, tell them you'll go to cable in that case.
 Share this content via...

Berberis   10 #4 Posted October 5, 2009 we are moving a week tomorrow an have informed bt an they are switching of at current house on the day an switching on new house the same day id ring back an speak to someone an we have been told no charge  You wouldn’t be charged a connection charge as the line is already there and paid for by someone else. But in the case of a new building no one has paid for the line to be fitted and its BT's policy to charge the new occupant the cost of installation as if they came out and put in the line. They do not charge the builder the cost; they recoup it from the first occupant. I’ve lived in two new flats over the last few years and we had this on both occasions. cgksheff   44 #5 Posted October 5, 2009 BT do have an offer which credits the £122.50 back if you sign up for a period and make a minimum number of calls (that can be within your package).
 Share this content via...
