There is a Freestyle wrestling gym near Don Valley (they have a facebook page) http://www.facebook.com/#!/WrestlingandMuayThaiSheffield

The gym has an uncertain future at the moment, the gym may become a complete wrestling academy, or may even close :(.

I've been training there for about 4/5 months and its a very good gym, (I started this account to try and encourage more people to come).

Hopefully it wont close.

Perhaps a long shot, but have you tried to gain funding or made connections to the local safer neighbourhood police to see if they have any ideas of where you can gain funding?

I'd have thought a club like this would be vital to give kids an outlet and something to do, and the local police would be keen to help keep it open

Hi,

I believe the head coach has looked into grants etc. But it seems very difficult. I am not really sure what he has tried. Do you know where I could get more information about a police grant?

I'm sure the Police themselves would be keen to keep a club like this open in the area, if kids are off the streets then I'm sure from their point of view it would benefit them (and people from that area). They maybe able to point you in the direction of where to gain funding.

mwgym - my job is bid writing. I would advise looking at the Sport England website (http://www.sportengland.org/funding.aspx) or the Lottery (http://www.biglotteryfund.org.uk/) as a first. Local funding is rare at the moment given cuts etc, still worth contacting your local safer neighbourhood officer though (http://www.southyorks.police.uk/Meettheteam/Darnall).

Give me a ring on 07595996461 if you need any help with it.
