Bedroom tax how much is it ?

Recommended Posts

High earners do pay more though so we already have that system.

It just needs sorting out to stop people and companies abusing loopholes.

Neither political party seems to be very, or motivated to do that.

Progressive taxation is a good thing. Costs imposed that only ever affect the low paid, ie the 'bedroom tax' are not progressive.

Progressive taxation is a good thing.

Why? A higher earner pays a higher tax total, even if there is a single fixed rate.

The why is quite simple.

High earners have a large amount of discretionary money to spend, low earners do not. That's because whether you earn a lot or not, you still need to eat, a roof, electricity, heating, clothes, etc...

"Supporters of the progressive system claim that higher salaries enable affluent people to pay higher taxes and that this is the fairest system because it lessens the tax burden of the poor."

A none progressive tax would be VAT, flat rate for everyone. A change in the VAT rate hits the poor much more heavily in % terms than the rich.

There are detailed examples here if you want to know more.
