aelfheah   10 #1 Posted August 3, 2010 Which famous people are known for being rather unpleasant offscreen/ in reality?  I was reading about the children's TV legend, Oliver Postgate (creator of Bagpuss, Ivor the Engine, etc) and he apparently was quite a grumpy git in person- he is said to have punctured a football that two young kids had accidentally kicked into his garden.  Are there any other, higher-profile sourpusses when out of their well-known environment? Mister M Â Â 1,605 #2 Posted August 3, 2010 I read several times by people who worked with her in the 1980s when she did Surprise Surprise & Blind Date, that Cilla Black was incredibly snooty and arrogant. Very different to her onscreen persona as a friendly cheery Liverpudlian.
 Share this content via...
Twiglet   10 #3 Posted August 3, 2010 Almost every 'famous' person has been described along the lines of snooty or arrogant at some point. Would this not just be the way people come across when they have all sorts of people bothering them on a continual basis when they try and go about the things everyone else does undisturbed? Babooshka   10 #4 Posted August 3, 2010 I meet quite a few in my line of work, and I have to say, that it is simply refreshing when someone famous, usually whom you least expect, is down to earth, genuine, fun, and happy to engage in conversation. Mr_Squirrel   10 #5 Posted August 3, 2010 I enjoy hearing stories of famous people who have the opposite effect.  One such person was Elvis Presley who was one guy who i couldnt stand when i was younger... His stage persona, posing, never performing an encore etc... i thought he was a very arrogant, self important person. Learning much more of Elvis as i grew older, its clear that he was actually a very mild mannered and quite shy, approachable, generous man.. a respecter of persons who always made time to speak to his fans and sported a very dry wit, much of which can be seen in his stage 'posing'... look closely and you can often see him trying not to laugh... 'posing' was just the performer mucking about.
 Share this content via...
aelfheah   10 #6 Posted August 3, 2010 Babooshka, you must have an interesting career?  Mr_Squirrel, yes I'd always heard of Elvis being a down-to-earth guy, and very generous. Some people even say that of John Lennon, who found time to chat to fans outside his own front door when they knocked.  If those two can do it, why can't the rest of the showbiz world downwards have some manners every now and then? Twiglet   10 #7 Posted August 3, 2010 I'm sure they do, but people always have 'off days'. Unfortunately far more about these hits the public ears than the 'nice' bits.
 Share this content via...
Babooshka   10 #8 Posted August 4, 2010 Babooshka, you must have an interesting career?  Yeah, I love my job! Although not for reasons relating to this thread.
 Share this content via...
IamChiChi   10 #9 Posted August 4, 2010 I have heard that Peter Andre is an absolute arse away from the public eye.  Doesn't surprise me though. Many celebrities play up to this golden boy/girl image. Every now and again they get caught out (Tiger Woods).
 Share this content via...
aelfheah   10 #10 Posted August 4, 2010 (edited) Every now and again they get caught out (Tiger Woods).  Like Bill Clinton! ...And half of the former (and current?) House of Commons!  But I was initially meaning simply ar**y behaviour. Edited August 4, 2010 by aelfheah
 Share this content via...
