Amey street lights

Recommended Posts

To report a faulty street light or lights go to; https://service.sheffield.gov.uk/selfservice/L05_Portal.html?formname=PFI_SLSV4

A section of lights on our road was reported on the 13th and has still to be fixed. By entering details on this linked form it tells me at least 2 people have already reported it.

In this case I'm sure it's the underground wiring which always takes longer to remedy.

WRONG It's AMEY that refuse to alter the intensity, or any other problem related to the street lights. I have spent over a year ,writing .Emailing. physically going to their head office, reporting to the Ombudsman, all to no avail. The lights causing me aggro ,are still the same .BLINDING, whilst 4 streets away .skirts have been added to FOUR lights .Same lights, same height .Government rules ... Get past that one. Sounds more like ,"Who you Know" to get anything done.

Sounds like you're overreacting massively.

The new street lights replacing the old ones that are being rolled out in Sheffield, they are terrific, when lit, are more efficient and will save all us tax payers money.

Saving us money at what cost? We have only just started installing them here in Sheffield, and guess if we've got it wrong already?

Other nations are yanking them out because science shows higher colour temperature of white LED bulbs affects the circadian rhythm of human beings and wildlife alike.

It's not merely a coincidence that you hear birds chirping at midnight in areas where LED street lamps have been installed.

I hear Robin’s chirping in the middle of the night in my non LED lid area.

That's because robins are sensitive little birds. There was a study done 10 years ago here in Sheffield with findings which are quite sad.

Robins are not nocturnal birds, so the study found that noise pollution created by humans during the daytime means our little robins struggle to be heard above the background noise. This means they've been forced to wait until nightime for the opportunity to sing when the ambient noise levels have dropped.

You can read the findings [here] if you wish.

Sheffield Council/ Amey started installing LED lights as part of the of the road refurbishment around 2012. Hardly. "just started"

I find that ringing after 6pm is better because you get to someone who knows what they are talking about.

I once rang a traffic light problem into call centre they didn't know where duke street was.

On Thursday night I reported 5 lights out they came out the following day & fixed them

Get some lined curtains.

Seemingly,,, you have NO problems with street lights, and AMEY. In which case, you should show a little more sympathy towards those of us that do.

If you, MAKAPAKA, have nothing but smart ass replies to this problem, keep them to yourself.

Has anyone had any success ,in having street lamps adjusted for light intrusion into their homes.or has AMEY totally ignored your request. As council tax payers ,we are surely allowed this problem to be dealt with. It would appear that AMEY have taken over the County Council's job regarding anything that we ask to be attended to. If you get as far as the Ombudsman regarding street lights, they merely mimic AMEY'S attitude. Anyone know who the next person is ,who can help ???

Seriously, with all due respect, it does feel that your anger regarding the issue could possibly be more detrimental to your health than the lights themselves.

I mean, what do you do in summer when it's only dark for a very few hours? That certainly messes up my sleep patterns something dreadful. I like my 7 hours all year round! We had some new curtains recently and they were like tissue paper when it came to letting the light through despite being lined. I couldn't live with it, but SWMBO liked them too much (and they weren't cheap) so we had some extra linings made and now you could detonate a nuke outside the window and you wouldn't see it. I have a LED streetlight on the road almost directly opposite - wouldn't know it was there with the curtains drawn.

Excuse me, but what was wrong in the post to which this comment was linked?

The uderground wiring was at fault, they came and dug up a section of footpath outside our house, fixed it, filled in the hole and all's now bright again. The online reporting system worked well and got quick action, albeit in this case it required more specialised attention.

As the lamp post is right at the top of our garden, towering above our house, we're quite familar with the intensity, and have appropriate curtains ensuring we're not inconvenienced in any way.
