Sorry to be cynical, but any chance you have opened as a 'bistro' next to what is Sheffields most popular new restaurant, also with bistro in its name? (As a regular diner I know it is very busy)

Bread £4? Vegetables and Potatoes £2? Clearly nobody is going to eat a main course minus vegetables or salad or starch, why not just build it in to the price, instead of making it an extra?

Unless you can beat it on its special offers and food quality, you may well be facing an uphill struggle.

3 courses = £19 + bread £4 + veg £2 = £25 (+coffee?)

And you have a bistro 200 yards away, on a Tuesday doing six courses for £19.90.......2 courses for £12.........2 courses and full bottle of wine each £20...

I may give it a try just to see as I live close by, but good luck.

They should make it more clear that this place is related/ owned by the same people as "Food and Fine Wine". It's an independent bistro, so you can't compare it to Bistro Pierre.

Hopefully, and you never know on Ecclesall Rd, it should do well. The place needs a decent bistro with a menu on the more adventurous side (braised cheek, offal and so on) and I'm assuming the wine list will be a cut above most places.

I agree with aeinstein though, I'd prefer the dishes to have an extra couple of pound added on and some crusty bread plonked down on the table as standard, with some good butter, and dishes to come with vegetables as standard.

I'd also like to see some foie gras on the menu, it's a standard bistro starter.

(As a cheese lover the ideas of charging £2 per cheese instead of the usual £5-6, or paying a supplement, is a good one.)

I think you're being incredibly cynical to be honest, and more than a little unfair by judging the place before it’s even open. As someone else has already pointed out it's owned by the same people who have the wine shop next door, and the way I've read it is that it's less a "new" establishment and more an extension of the food & wine tasting evenings they run from there every so often. Given that every time I walk past there when they have one of those events on the place seems really busy I’m sure it was just a natural progression to move the food operation into the larger space next door.

Vegetables and Potatoes £2? Clearly nobody is going to eat a main course minus vegetables or salad or starch, why not just build it in to the price, instead of making it an extra?

Bistrot Pierre do exactly the same thing: £2.25 each for any of the "accompagnements" on their menus - in fact most of the restaurants I've eaten out in recently now have this policy. I'm certainly not condoning them as I find it as annoying as you do, but it’s a bit unfair to use it as a criticism against these guys when the very place you’re comparing it to does exactly the same thing…

Great, another place to try on Ecclesall Road. Personally I like the style of the menu and the pricing policy.

The more the merrier, competition is good sometimes as it keeps places on their toes and means that if you go on 'spec' you can usually find somewhere to eat.

Got the 'catering t shirt' so anybody opening up gets my best wishes.

Yep - likewise. I've been to wine tastings with Fine Food & Wine and have enjoyed the wine, the nibbles and chatting to the two guys who ran the sessions. I'll be trying this place; I like Bistrot Pierre but I'd rather eat somewhere owned by a couple of locals.

Standard veg and potatoes are included, there is an option to order extras though, fries:green beans/garlic mushrooms etc. Bread is also complimentary.

It will get a full and fair review once I have been!

You are right the two guys come from near Derby, but remember it employs 30 'locals', that then put back in to the Sheffield economy!

Chinaski- I definately agree re the foie gras, preferably seared not pate though.

Aeinstein199- I think it gives people chance to try the two, I have walked past as they are refurbing it and its size doesnt really compete with Bistrot Pierre, if they got all the people Bistrot turn away with no bookings on a Friday and Saturday they will be busy alone! I will definitely be along to see what its like. (Beef looks like it will be right up my st!)

First a confession of bias - I found Food & Fine Wine (FFW) when I was looking around Sheffield to buy a house. The location of FFW (and the Wool Baa) meant that I ended up buying in Hunters Bar, I loved it so much.

Whenever I am in Sheffield at the weekend I go to FFW for lunch. I usually go with my boyfriend but it's also fine to go on my own and there usually seems to be someone interesting to talk to. If not there are the papers or the people who work there to chat to. I have been to a couple of the wine tastings on my own and these have proved to be great fun and welcoming for someone on their own.

The food at FFW has always been outstanding with a couple of vegetarian options on the menu. My meat-eating friends are similarly impressed. John, the chef, produces wonderful food.

I popped in for a look around today before the opening on Monday. They've done a lovely job on fitting out the restaurant and the menu looks great. Not just that but the wine list is great and if you like something enough you can probably buy a couple of bottles from FFW next door. I'll be making this my restaurant of choice, even though Hunter's Bar is blessed with many good cafes and restaurants, and will be going into Kitchen for my lunch most Saturdays.

I wish the guys the very best of luck with this expansion.

I like the menu and I'll be visiting to check it out. Thanks for advertising it one here. It's got a lot more ofa home made real food feel than most of the places nearby.

I went to Bistrot Pierre once. I won't be going again, not because it was particularly bad, but it was all a bit bland and had the feel of a franchise or chain restaurant.
