donkeyburns   10 #1 Posted April 17, 2018 Anyone have any information regarding The Sheffield Goldsmiths Company. It did have premises on High Street then moved to Fargate / Chapel Walk and ceased trading in about 1952. I know there is a current company of the same name but wanted any information on the original one. Thanks in advance
 Share this content via...
Moirahyde   10 #2 Posted April 17, 2018 Mainly adverts in the newspapers, but in one dated 17 May 1906, the business has been sold to a company (now being formed) and moving to much larger premises at 11 Fargate. The company will continue the services of the present staff under the Management and Directorship of Mr. W. Saunders.  In 1907, the company claimed 'Established when George III was King'. hillsbro   32 #3 Posted April 17, 2018 The move to Fargate was evidently completed at the end of October 1906 - here is an advert. from the Sheffield Daily Independent of 8 September announcing a "Great Sale" in readiness for the move, and another advert. of 23 October which states "last few days". In November the adverts. announce the opening of "The New Shop and Showrooms" - here is one from the Sheffield Daily Telegraph of 8 November.
