Living in a gated community

Does anyone live in a gated community like those at Wadsley Park Village ( Kingswood Hall etc) What are the pros and cons?

We don't, but our son and his family did until recently. Pros included; the feeling of security and safety; the shared open space which was great for families and dog owners; maintenance and landscaping were carried out regularly; the residents pulling together to ensure the standards were kept up. Cons included; the cost of the maintenance; the gates not always working; having to sit on, or trust others to sit on a management committee to decide schedules etc., and there could be personality clashes.

I enjoyed staying there when we visited, the original old building was turned into apartments, and some of the other houses were built on the footprint of the old stables or coach house. Because the maintenance and landscaping was regular, the estate always looked uniform and well kept.
