Albert smith   11 #1 Posted January 25, 2018 Ex Sheffield M.P. Richard Caborn has decided to apply for the position of South Yorkshire Mayor this after putting himself forward for any thing else that puts himself in the media ,  scores of ex M.Ps who for some reason cannot admit that their day is done do the same Lord:hihi: John Prescott being another example. Perhaps they need the money:help:  What South Yorks needs is some young blood voted into these positions ,people similar to the young French President who is getting new ideas across so as their citizens can look forward to a positive future not the same old drivel that some of these who refuse to admit that their day is done. Funky_Gibbon   42 #4 Posted January 25, 2018 Another pointless position created to insulate the Government from blame, just like Police & Crime Commissioners.
 Share this content via...
cytine   40 #5 Posted January 25, 2018 Do we really need a Yorkshire Mayor and can we really afford another layer of unnecessary bureaucracy? His/hers wages, expenses, secretaries, researchers, security and other hangers on, plus office and equipment and of course the obligatory posh car and chauffeur. Where's the money coming from? We all know it will be another "job for the boys" Labour lackey who gets the job, just like that other waste of money Billings. geared   318 #6 Posted January 25, 2018 Doesn't this thing come with a bunch of extra budget to spend on the region??  Part of the whole devolution of power and stuff?
 Share this content via...
Fogey   10 #7 Posted January 25, 2018 Isn't the problem with the regional mayors that while Londons mayor gets a budget of something like £8billion a year to play with the regional mayors are getting something like £30million each spread over about 10 years? Anybody know?
 Share this content via...
paula4sheff   10 #8 Posted January 25, 2018 What does a mayor do?  Can we not do away with the position in this 'age of austerity'?
 Share this content via...
Geo-atkinson   10 #9 Posted January 25, 2018 Another pointless position created to insulate the Government from blame, just like Police & Crime Commissioners.  Absolutely spot on. Why do we need another tear of government claiming large salaries just to tell us there isn't enough money to go around. If we have a Mayor what is the leader of the council for? What does the Chief constable do now we have a Crime Commisioner? Do they get paid less for doing less? Do they FFFFFF!
 Share this content via...
