My reply may sound silly but all the pubs were the best as they gave employment and a meeting place to socialise where local news was passed around, most people today call into a supermarket get their drink and go back home to sit in using precious fuel that costs them a fortune to run.Nowdays most of the British pubs as we once knew them have to rely on meals to keep open if at all possible, another thing is smoking having to stand outside in the freezing cold,i agree that any smoker should be segregated from non smokers but go back in time and most pubs catered having seperate rooms such as,Tap room, best room, dram shop, smoking room!!,lounge, etc. In a lot of cases the British pub was a place where lonely people could feel part of their community probably not seeing anyone to talk to through the day but able to chat over a glass or two in the evenings.....LONG MAY A BRITISH PUB REMAIN???? AT THE RATE OF CLOSURE NOT FOR LONG I WOULD IMAGINE..

The Truro Tavern, used to go in there for lunch when I was at Granville college the burgers were absolutely fantastic, beer wasn't bad to say it was Whitbreads.

Happy days. I remember the landlady cooking chips on the bar top with a chip pan & a Primus stove. They also warmed pies in a glass cabinet with no other heat source than a light bulb. They didn't invent salmonella or health & safety until a few years later.

There was also the Montgomery across the road. It was a real dump but had a great juke box. We got it wound up so loud one lunchtime that the roof fell in on top of it.

The Truro Tavern got closed when they widened the road. The Montgomery had the top floor blown off by a bomb in WW2 and they never really got round to repairing it. I think it simply fell down.

around 2000, opened up as the Casbah, now closed

Hope someone has told the owners and the staff, I was in there last week.:)

For me, it's The Yorkshire Grey. Not really for the pub, just so they didn't knock the building down.

Pity The Pump got demolished, not a great pub, just some great memories.

Amazing, that sounds like fun.

We had much fun at the Stonehouse, Golden Ball, Mucky Duck & later on at the Classic Rock Bar watching some fab bands, Strongheart were amazing, all good times.
